Esu is not Satan. Esu Laaroye that we misinterpreted to be Satan was a Yoruba man.
Satan is not Esu, Esu is not Satan.
Satan is Satani, Asetani, luciferi in yoruba.
Esu is a different figure in Yoruba mythology.
It was Sir Ajayi Crowther, Nigerian linguist and the first African Anglican bishop who translated the Bible into Yoruba. Bishop Crowther also wrote the first Yoruba dictionary that translated Yoruba into English. The mix up happened in the dictionary where he translated Satan as Esu.
Samuel Ajayi Crowther was instrumental in translating the Bible into Igbo language. In 1857, he wrote Isaoma-Ibo, the first book written in Igbo language and in 1882, he wrote the first detailed dictionary in Igbo. Perhaps, his input accounts for how *Ekwensu* became the Igbo word for Satan.
This means that before Ajayi Crowder, Satan was not Ekwensu in Igbo tradition.
Esu died in Ijelu-Ekiti, in Oye Local Government while traveling from ile ife to some towns in Ekiti to wrestle with monarchs. Esu defeated so many monarchs until he was defeated by the Elejelu, monarch of Ijelu-Ekiti
Sone linguists advocated devil as Bilisi, Satan as Satani`, and Demon as anjannu´.

In Yoruba cosmology, Olodumare, also written as Eledumare, is the supreme God. Next in the hierarchy of gods are the Orishas. Orishas are lesser gods. They are in charge of certain elements and adherents pray to them instead of directly to Eledumare. The supreme God is only consulted when a matter is beyond the powers of any of the Orishas or when there is a dispute among them.
The exact number of Orishas is unknown. Some say that the number of Orishas is as many as you can imagine plus an extra one. The list of Orishas include Ogun, Osun, Sango, Obatala, Esu and others.
Even yorubas traditional worshipers know that Orisas (gods) are not the Almighty God. The list of Orishas include Ogun, Osun, Sango, Obatala, Esu and others.
After Esu died in Ekiti 🤣, some people started worshipping him as Orisha. I won't say much about this for now
Ogun is the god of Iron
Osun rules over the sweet waters of the world, the brooks, streams and rivers. She embodies love and fertility.
Esu is the trickster god. He is the god of mischief.
Let me explain something here.
The people who became Orishas include Ogun, Osun, Sango, Obatala, Esu and others were human beings before they died. After their death, demons who fell with Lucifer (satani) took over their bodies to use it as if they still live. So when people call on ogun and they see results, it is the demon that took up oguns identity that is in operation. It is the same demon (anjanu or alujannu) that they their worshipers worship.
Let's continue with Esu's story 🤣
Traditional Yoruba worshippers (Aborisha) insist that Esu is not as ”devilish” as he has been made out to be in Christianity. They say that Esu, unlike the Christian Satan is not against the will of Olodumare. His will and ways are subject to the plans of the supreme God.
My own submission about this is close to the above assertion but not exact. Satan that fell from heaven fell with angels that became demons. So Satan still remain satan. He is not demon or Esu.
Satan is not demon. Satan is not Esu.
Demon is not Satan,
Esu was possessed by a demon and hence, Esu is a demon and it is a god because some people worship it.
You get it?
But demons are cohorts of Satan. Satan is their Headmaster.
As Yoruba traditional worshipers believe, some of the demons actually do good while others or at other times also do evil.
For example, when people need children, they go to Osun and osun give them children according to their believes. But such children are possessed of demons too.
Do you know why they said pregnant women should not go around on a sunny day and at nights? Apart from scientific explanation, demons can also possess the child in the womb when the mother goes to wrong places during the day or at night. I can't type so many thoughts on this
Let me not divert from the main topic:
Orishas include Ogun, Osun, Sango, Obatala, Esu and others are gods.
Now, let me drive my point home.
Psalm 82:6 "I have said, Ye are gods; And all of you are children of the most High."
You as a child of God, you are a god. According to yoruba traditional worshipers, you are at the level of Esu, ogun, obatala etc. This means that instead of people to consult these god for a solution, people can consult you and you provide them solutions.
Secondly, you are a god. So why will you worship other gods like yourself. For example, I just told you that Esu was a yoruba man whose spirit was possessed by a demon after he died and people are worshiping him as a god.
As a child of God, the spirit of God (Holy Spirit) possess you, you are a god too. Confirm that in psalms 82:6.
So why will you worship other gods like yourself? Ignorance! You worship your counterparts because you don't know who you are... Ignorance!
Esu is a god, I am a god.
Obatala, ogun, osun are gods, i am a god too.
In fact you are bigger than these Gods. See why
1John 4:4 ...greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world...
If christ dwells in you, you are greater than other God because Christ is the head of all principalities and powers.
So when people do bad and you ask them and they say "Esu ni", they are actually right. They mean Esu - the trickster, not satan 🤣
When babalawo invoke Esu to do and deal with someone, it is the demon the invoke to do it.
But do you know that you are higher than demons if you are in Christ Jesus? Even if someone takes your name to babalawo to invoke a spirit against you, it will be of no effect because you are far above them. See how.

Be aware of the authority you have. Dwell in and utilize the authority for your good. Hallelujah!
